Join the Hungarian community for a celebration of Liszt’s music this coming Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 4 PM in the Hungarian Cultural Garden at  East Blvd, between Superior Road and St. Clair Avenue.

Free admission.  Free parking on East Blvd, Shakespeare Pkwy and Parkside, all at the Garden.

Bring your own lawn chairs since there will be limited seating in place.  Picnics are welcome, too.

Aurora School of Music head and Budapest native Vera Holczer will be one of a number of pianists on hand playing your Liszt favorites while Liszt looks on from his nearby tribute plaque.

Check out all of the restoration work that the Hungarian Cultural Garden committee has undertaken, learn about what the committee will be doing going forward.

Most all enjoy one of the very few opportunities you can find to hear delightful music in a beautiful garden setting.

Hungarian Garden’s August 14th Event Recap

August 17th, 2010

Celebrating Liszt and St. Stephen, the Hungarian Cultural Garden committee put together  a remarkably entertaining event with perfect summer weather, a major tree planting and general good time on Sunday, August 14th, 2010.

Outstanding musicians from America’s pre-eminent musical conservatories playing Liszt and Kodály, among others to enthusiastic applause: Vera Holczer on piano and Ariel Clayton on violin.  Theodore Horvath’s strong and melodic voice lead everyone in the US national anthem and Himnusz (national anthem of Hungary).  Greg Polyak ably MC’d the event.  Lel Somogyi gave detailed exposition on St. Stephen’s place in Hungarian history and the always most generous landscaper Ed Radick gave tours after the program, answered questions about the Garden and went on planting trees.

Generous supporters of the Hungarian Garden planted 22 new hawthorns at the Garden’s East Blvd entrance:  Carolyn and Jim Balogh, Jenny Brown, Cleveland Hungarian Development Panel, Phil and Susan Ertel, Judit Puskas, Kori and Tom Smith, and St. Emeric Altar Guild.  Ably assisted by the remarkable Ernie Mihaly.
