The Azerbaijan ambassador visited the Cultural Gardens

August 24th, 2007
According to the Plain-Dealer’s Robert Smith on August 24, 2007 (and I quote from his story): “Sometimes, it takes an outsider to spy the hometown treasure. Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Washington, Hafiz Pashayev, spent a lot of time in Cleveland in 2003, as the late Azerbaijan president underwent treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. The restless ambassador discovered the Cleveland Cultural Gardens and arranged a private tour with George Parras, president of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation. Soon after, Pashayev urged members of the region’s small Azerbaijan community to become part of what he saw as a magnificent civic trophy case. The immigrant community went to work. It hopes to break ground soon on an Azerbaijan Cultural Garden on Martin Luther King Drive and join a busy garden scene.”

Robert Smith’s entire story is available at Cleveland.com.
